OBAMA CALLS ON SEN. PAUL TO DROP OBJECTIONS TO TAX TREATIES

Obama said the treaties will help U.S. authorities investigate and crack down on offshore tax evasion.

Paul has argued that they would infringe on Americans’ constitutional right to privacy because their tax data and personal financial information would be shared with other countries. Treaties cannot go into force unless ratified by the Senate, and the objection of any one senator halts action on legislative business pending in that house of Congress, as Paul has done in this case.

CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY APPROVED BY NEW HAMPSHIRE SENATE

2-25-16-open-carry

Last fall, staunch anti-gun Democrat Gov. Maggie Hassan vetoed a measure placed on her desk to codify the right to carry without first being issued a permit. A new proposal this session passed the House with a 206-146 vote earlier this year and the Senate 14-10 this week.

“This is our opportunity to ensure the Second Amendment rights of our constituents are upheld,” said supporter Sen. Gary Daniels, R-Milford, on the Senate floor.

The legislation, HB 582, keeps the state’s current concealed carry permit system that has been in place since 1923. However, it makes clear that the fact those permits exist does not prohibit unlicensed transport or carry of a concealed pistol or revolver in a car or on one’s person if the carrier is an adult legally able to possess a firearm. Retaining the option of issuing permits would allow state residents to carry while traveling to other parts of the country that honor New Hampshire’s current licenses.

MINN. LAWMAKERS TO DISCUSS CONTROVERSIAL BATHROOM BILL

The legislation is similar to what’s now law in North Carolina.

The Minnesota House bill states that “restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms and other similar places, which shall remain reserved for males or females as they are biologically defined.”

The actual language of the bill defines “a person’s sex is either male or female as biologically defined.” Transgender people said gender is only “assigned” at birth but can change over a person’s life.

Obama vetoes legislation repealing Obamacare, defunding Planned Parenthood

President Barack Obama has vetoed legislation that would have repealed much of Obamacare and defunded Planned Parenthood. It is the first time the president has used his power of veto to defend his signature healthcare legislation.

“This legislation would not only repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act, but would reverse the significant progress we have made in improving health care in America,” Obama wrote members of the House in a letter.

Earlier on Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the legislation and sent it to the president’s desk. The measure passed by a vote of 240 to 181, with just one Democrat, Rep. Collin Peterson (Minneapolis) voting in favor. Three Republicans voted against the measure.

We are confronting the president with the hard, honest truth: ObamaCare doesn’t work,” House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) said at the time of the vote, according to The Hill.
