Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate in the recent presidential election, conceded on Friday that there would not be a recount of votes in Michigan.
During a rally that drew dozens of supporters in frigid Detroit temperatures, Stein slammed the voting system in the Wolverine State, The Detroit News reported.
The Michigan Supreme Court put a halt to the recount a day earlier by a vote of 3-2, ending whatever faint hopes there were of going over all 4.8million ballots.
Stein insists that if the recount went ahead, Donald Trump, who officially won the state by 10,704 votes over Hillary Clinton, would have his victory overturned.
A staff writer for left-wing website Mic.com uncritically accepted a prankster’s account of a fictitious racially-charged interaction with a Trump supporter, later spreading the false story on Twitter while dismissing those skeptical of the story’s veracity.
The story begins with a tweet from Mic staff writer Sarah Harvard, requesting stories of Trump-inspired attacks on non-whites, Muslims or LGBTQ people. “If you’re a person of color, Muslim, and/or LGBTQ, and have been attacked by a Trump supporter. DM/email me,” she wrote, providing her email for people to contact her. Harvard promised a “Safe space” for any alleged victims.

Let’s talk about fake news stories, shall we?
There’s the garden variety fake news that is not really “news” so much as it is titillating, tabloid-worthy material peddled by anyone with a Twitter account, a Facebook page and an active imagination. These stories run the gamut from the ridiculous and the obviously click-baity to the satirical and politically manipulative.
Anyone with an ounce of sense and access to the Internet should be able to ferret out the truth and lies in these stories with some basic research. That these stories flourish is largely owing to the general gullibility, laziness and media illiteracy of the general public, which through its learned compliance rarely questions, challenges or confronts.
Then there’s the more devious kind of news stories circulated by one of the biggest propagators of fake news: the U.S. government.
Trump said in an online video message on priorities for his first 100 days that he has asked his transition team “to develop a list of executive actions we can take on day one, to restore our laws and bring back our jobs. It’s about time.”
“On trade, I am going to issue our notification of intent to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a potential disaster for our country,” he said. “Instead, we will negotiate fair, bilateral trade deals that bring jobs and industry back onto American shores.”
Trump characterized the move a part of a plan to advance the simple core principle of “putting American first.”
“Whether it’s producing steel, building cars, or curing disease, I want the next generation of production and innovation to happen right here, on our great homeland, America – creating wealth and jobs for American workers,” he said.

An Alabama judge says a former astronaut charged in the traffic deaths of two girls can continue driving, but with restrictions.
A judge in Tuscaloosa ruled late Friday that former space shuttle commander James Halsell Jr. can’t consume any alcohol, illegal drugs or medication unless he has a prescription.
Circuit Judge Bradley Almond also ruled the 60-year-old Halsell must have a special locking device installed on his car’s ignition. And the Huntsville man must undergo twice-weekly testing.
Halsell fought to keep his driver’s license after being charged with murder in the traffic deaths of two young girls in Tuscaloosa County in June.
The state initially suspended his license but Halsell appealed. Court documents show Halsell was on probation after receiving a DUI ticket in Los Angeles in 2014.
Making Pence VP is seen by many as a way of calming establishment conservatives and uniting the GOP, although why pandering to cuckservatives who have failed over and over again (John McCain, Mitt Romney etc etc) is suddenly a good idea remains a mystery.
Here are more reasons why picking Pence doesn’t make sense; – While Trump has promised to build a wall, Pence has been savaged by respected conservatives like Pat Buchanan and Phyllis Schlafly for advocating “stealth amnesty” in the form of a guest worker program.
The US will leave 8,400 troops through the end of the Obama administration, the president announced. Obama had planned to drop troop levels from 9,800 to 5,500 troops by the end of 2016. But the increase of Taliban attacks have intensified calls to leave more troops there.
“The security situation in Afghanistan remains precarious,” Obama said. The Afghan military still needs our help, the president added.
“It is in our national security interest, esp after all the blood and treasure we’ve invested over the years, that we give our partners in afghan the best chance to succeed.”
Flanked by Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford, Obama announced Washington’s new exit strategy from the White House’s Roosevelt Room on Wednesday. His remarks focused on the need for partnership between the US and Afghan militaries.
